Residents of Hendersonville Tennessee know full well that there is a healthy population of deer but not many see the elusive big trophy bucks. They are pretty secretive but at certain times of the year can be spotted. I reckon that their isn't any hunters that can hunt on Indian lake peninsula but I bet many would love to! If Hendersonville ever softens the hunting regulations and allows bow hunting I would gladly help out with what many residents say is the H'ville deer "problem". 🙂
Back when I was a young teenager in the 1970's I got around town on my trusty 10 speed bicycle. I never thought much about the process of riding or the benefits - I just wanted to get to certain places and that was my mode of transportation. .. But as I got older and I decided to get to get back into shape the first thing I started doing was riding an old mountain bike on some designated bike trails. And I have been steadily riding for more than the last 10 years. Now when I ride I take in all the natural scenes all around Indian Lake Peninsula where I ride. Good scenery and a good physical work out - It's a good way to start your day and begin your exercise regimen. To me it's nicer than being inside a gym. ... your outside taking in everything around you.... Going down a hill with the wind in your face makes me feel alive and thankful that I am healthy enough to get out there and do it! , ..... It's kinda funny how something so simple can be so much fun, .. the simple joy of riding a bike. John
Just recently went through the Tennessee state mandated course for a permit to carry a handgun at the local gun shop "Guns and Leather" http://gandlacademy.com/ Was very impressed with there whole operation. Everything from entering the parking lot in the morning to leaving in the afternoon was handled in a professional courteous manner.... The instructor was excellent with blending the required information with his own experience as a law enforcement officer. During the breaks in the class you can window shop in the showroom at a nice large selection of both handguns and rifles. On the lower level is the range where you can buy ammo, get a target and shoot ( either your weapon or you can rent from a selection of nice guns). All told I couldn't have been more pleased with my experience and I am looking forward to taking more training classes to improve my shooting skills. John
Looking for a place to swim on a hot summer day? Look no further than Lock 3 park - Old Hickory lake access area off Walton ferry road. As far as I know it's the only "beach" in Hendersonville to swim at. It seems to be lightly used and along with the swim area it has a nice "no frills" boat launch with good fishing close by. As you turn onto lock 3 road it's like going back in time as your going thru a canopy of old trees and to the right some old original cabins and a farm. Then when you emerge your at the park. Many parents of young children like to go there for a few hours of swimming fun. There is also a few picnic tables and grills for cooking. The boat launch never seems to be crowded and you are located on a great part of the lake. One thing to keep in mind is although the swim area is roped off with plastic floating buoys there is no netting on them so.... it is possible some of the critters from the lake may swim by you 🙂 One negative is as with most parks in Hendersonville there are an abundance of geese that frequent them and the associated mess that they leave after they visit. You and your children need to be really careful where you walk!... but it is after all a nature park. Get out there and have some summer fun! John
If your looking for a campground near Nashville one you may consider is Cages Bend Campground located between Hendersonville and Gallatin. It's right on Old Hickory Lake on a nice point of land with full amenities including a nice launch area for your boat. Beautiful and peaceful , a great place to camp!
When Debbie and I sold our business and personal holdings and decided to move south we went on an extended vacation to visit North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. We were taking a long overdue holiday and also going to pick our new Home base. After awhile we narrowed it down to Charleston, Asheville, and Hendersonville. We chose Hendersonville because of : Old Hickory Lake ( the boat ramp is 1 mile from our house), close proximity to Nashville, affordable housing prices and Tennessee's reputation as a low tax, business friendly state. Also a prerequisite nearby shopping and dining places, and last but not least a relativity safe place to raise a family.
All the way towards the back of the Walton ferry peninsula in Hendersonville, which is just to the northeast of Nashville is a rare thing in today's world; someone who has resisted the chance to cash in by selling their long held business. It's called lakeshore campground with about 15 or so spacious sites. It appears that most campers are there year round so it provides a economical way to be right on the lake. Years ago I was told by a long time Hendersonville realtor/developer that he had tried to buy the parcel but was repeatedly shot down. He said it was owned by a women who had no use for developers... Right next to the campground is a development of large houses that extend out and around a nice prominent point into the lake. Directly across the creek is Walton ferry park/ramp and adjacent to that is a mobile home community for seniors that has probably 50 or so homes..... maybe the same women owns both places? This area has everything from beautiful parks and full service marina's with plenty of restaurants and housing from apartments and condo's thru small single family houses up to waterfront estates. The north part is up at main street and sanders ferry road parallels Drakes creek as it flows toward the main stem of the Cumberland river and Old hickory lake. Once on Sanders ferry road just off main street there are gas stations, restaurants, and other small business's then you'll see Mallard point park on the left. It is one of the most busy of the ramps in the area. As you travel down further you'll pass two big full service marina's and then you turn left to stay on sanders ferry road and then you enter sanders ferry park . Which is a huge (several hundred acres) park with the biggest launch pad around. There is always plenty of houses for sale in every price range and as you can see you have your choice of a wide variety of options to chose from. This is a much busier peninsula than Indian Lake what with the extra people coming into the restaurants, marina's, and other amenities that are offered here. Still, when you get off the two busy roads it is relativity quiet area..... if you like being close to the action, this is your spot! Once again this peninsula allowed for commercial development whereas Indian lake didn't. John and Debbie http://debbiemeyers.realtor
Hendersonville is known as the "city by the lake" because a good bit of Old Hickory lake borders it. There is no less than 9 launch areas that I frequent and they are all free to launch your boat! There is good fishing to be found at all of them, also there is plenty of opportunity for shore fishing as most of the boat ramps are in nice parks that the city of Hendersonville maintains.
O.K. I admit it I'm an old guy, came up in the '70's, so I was exposed to the greatest music ever made and it takes a good bit to impress me... but when i saw Kelly Clarkson's performance of her new song "piece by piece" I was blown away. Now, I was always aware of Kelly's super success after idol but after seeing her on the last season of American Idol and learning of her back story I gotta say this : I Love Me Some Kelly Clarkson! Her struggles and challenges are all part of who she is and her success is a great thing..... I often fish within sight of her house here on Old Hickory lake and one day as I was launching my old bass boat at the neighborhood ramp I encountered a fella who was putting in his Ski boat along with his young kids. I really didn't pay much attention to what he was doing, but he was in front of me preparing to put in and must have had something slowing him down, so he politely pulled around behind me to let me go first. As I put in,I thought to myself wow that is a very aware and nice gesture. As I went to my first fishing spot I noticed the ski boat going over to the pier at Kelly's house and then I figured it out that it was Kelly's husband Brandon.... So.. Not only am I a fan of Kelly's but also of Brandon. Thanks, John and Debbie http://debbiemeyers.realtor http://debbiemeyers.realtor
